The Purpose of the Kit

Sawan is considered a sacred period for Shiv worship, inner purification and deepening one’s spiritual discipline.

This kit is designed to help you create a daily practice through:

  • Shivling jal abhishek
  • Mantra chanting
  • Establishing a personal sankalp
  • Wearing an energised Panchmukhi Rudraksha
  • Applying sacred chandan and bhasma
  • Remembering Mahadev throughout the day
  • Practising greater awareness, purity and emotional balance

The intention is not limited to performing a ritual. It is to carry the remembrance of Shiva into your thoughts, actions and everyday life.

How to Use the Shiv Sadhna Sawan Kit

1. Prepare Your Puja Space

Choose a clean and peaceful place in your home.

Spread the small white cloth included in the kit. After carefully unpacking the Parad Shivling, place it in a clean glass bowl or vessel over the white cloth.

The glass vessel is not included in the kit.

2. Perform Jal Abhishek

Begin by offering simple, clean water over the Shivling.

You do not need an elaborate mixture for your daily abhishek. Water offered with sincerity and devotion is sufficient.

While performing the abhishek, chant:

Om Namah Shivaya

You may also chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra according to your spiritual practice.

3. Offer the Janeu

After the abhishek, respectfully offer the Janeu to the Shivling.

This forms part of the traditional worship and establishment of your Shiv sadhna space.

4. Establish the Sankalp Supari

Place the Sankalp Supari near the Shivling.

In traditional worship, the supari may be regarded as a symbolic representation of Lord Ganapati and may also hold the intention or sankalp with which the puja is being performed.

Place it respectfully beside the Shivling, preferably near the silver belpatra.

5. Place the Silver Belpatra

Offer or place the silver belpatra near the Shivling.

Belpatra is traditionally associated with Lord Shiva and represents purity, devotion and surrender.

The reusable silver belpatra allows you to maintain this sacred offering as a part of your daily puja space.

6. Place the Moti

Keep the Moti, or pearl, near the Sankalp Supari.

The pearl is traditionally associated with the Moon and is included as a symbolic element for calmness, emotional balance and steadiness of the mind.

7. Tie the Sankalp Kalawa

Tie the Sankalp Kalawa on your right wrist on the first day of your sadhna.

Both women and men may tie it on the right hand.

You may begin this practice on the first day of Sawan, on the day you receive the kit, or whenever you choose to start your Shiv sadhna.

Tie the thread while consciously remembering the intention with which you are beginning the practice.

8. Place the Mahamrityunjaya Yantra

Keep the Shri Mahamrityunjaya Yantra near the Shivling in your puja space.

It may be placed beside or behind the Shivling, ensuring that it remains clean and respectfully positioned.

You may chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra while sitting near the Yantra and Shivling.

9. Energise and Wear the Panchmukhi Rudraksha

On the first day, gently perform an abhishek of the 5 Mukhi Rudraksha using clean water and the puja materials provided in the kit.

After the Rudraksha has been respectfully cleansed and offered to Lord Shiva, you may wear it.

Wear it as a reminder to remain connected with your spiritual sankalp and the remembrance of Mahadev throughout the day.

10. Use the Ittar

On the first day, mix only one drop of ittar in the water used for the Shivling abhishek.

Afterwards, the ittar may be used personally by applying a very small amount behind the ears or around the navel area.

Fragrance is used as a reminder to carry purity, positivity and the subtle presence of your spiritual practice into daily life.

For external use only. Perform a patch test before applying it to the skin and discontinue use in case of irritation.

11. Use Chandan and Bhasma

During the first-day puja, offer the chandan and bhasma to the Shivling as part of the worship.

Afterwards, you may regularly apply a small amount of chandan or bhasma to your forehead.

This becomes a daily reminder:

I am connected with Shiva, and Shiva is with me.

Suggested Daily Sadhna

Your daily practice can remain simple:

  1. Sit in a clean and quiet space.
  2. Light the dhoop.
  3. Offer clean water to the Shivling.
  4. Apply chandan or bhasma.
  5. Chant “Om Namah Shivaya.”
  6. Chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, if possible.
  7. Remember your sankalp.
  8. Sit silently for a few moments.

More than the complexity of the ritual, it is consistency, devotion and awareness that make the practice meaningful.

A Practice of Tattva Shuddhi

The deeper purpose of Sawan sadhna is tattva shuddhi—the gradual purification of one’s thoughts, emotions, habits and inner energies.

As the days of Sawan progress, allow the practice to help you become more conscious, calm and spiritually aligned.

Keep remembering Mahadev throughout the day—not only during the puja, but also through your speech, actions and intentions.
